Rain, Overland - handbuilt small porcelain bowl in marbled porcelain using clear and colored glazes. Landscape themed one of a kind bowl in hues of lavender, white and blue.  FREE SHIPPING WITHIN UNITED STATES.
#P1803

Small porcelain bowl, meticulously hand-formed with marbled white and speckled lavender porcelain.  White and blue running glazes over a food safe clear glaze base. Rain Overland showcases a beautiful blend of colors including white, lavender, and blue. Depicting a rainstorm over desert southwestern terrain, this piece is one of a kind. Crafted with care Rain Overland would be a perfect addition to your collection or a thoughtful gift for a loved one. Available now with FREE SHIPPING WITHIN UNITED STATES.

5 1/2" X 5 1/2" X 5 1/16"

The color in this piece comes in several layers. Some of the white porcelain was colored with a lavender Mason stain. Then some ilmenite granules  were wedged into the lavender porcelain. The lavender and white porcelain was then marbled together to make what I considered to be an interesting terrestrial reference. The piece was then glazed with a clear food safe glaze. Additional glazes in white and blue were then brushed around the rim to make the rain reference.

The shape is based on ancient Greek amphorae bases. The narrow base is flat, allowing the bowl to stand on its own. Amphorae were normally pointed on the bottom to allow them to be embedded in sand or soft dirt to stand upright. Because the base is so narrow, I would expect Rain Overland to be a display piece rather than a serving piece.

All my bowls are food safe unless otherwise noted. Signed and dated in ink on the bottom. If you choose to serve food in this bowl, please serve only dry items. The bowl may tip easily and spill any liquid onto your table. Something like this:

may be helpful if you want to use Rain Overland for wet items.

I would recommend hand washing for any fine ceramic object. The detergent used in dishwashers etches glass and glazed items over time. If you really care about something - hand wash it.

**Rain, Overland will come to you shipped USPS Mail, insured, and carefully packaged. Shipping and insurance are FREE for delivery within the United States.

I love to ship internationally and have done so many times. If you require overseas shipping, please contact me and I will see what fees may apply. I do not ship to all countries, mostly the EU, Great Britain, Irland, and Australia.

Shipping overseas will require additional fees dependent on the specific country. Fees such as custom or VAT taxes may be charged and would be payable to the appropriate agency upon delivery. It is the responsibility of the individual to research such fees. I have no way to research them or collect for them.

You may have noticed that I am not a “production potter”.  I don't make the same thing over and over again. There is nothing wrong in doing that, it is just not where my interests lay.  I am what is termed a “studio potter”.  Among other forms, I like bowl forms in their various guises. No two of my pieces are the same, even when working on a similar theme.  It can take upwards of a week for me to make one piece. Any given piece may take several visits to the kiln before I get the color development that I want. I tend to treat each object that I make as an individual, rather than a “thing”. I only work with materials that I feel have a “spark” to them, a sort of “life force” element.

**If you have any questions about the bowl, the process, or the exhibition history of the piece, please do not hesitate to ask.

Enjoy!

Rain, Overland
