**Morganite Facts:
Morganite is a member of the Beryl family of precious gemstones which includes Emerald, Aquamarine - pale blue, Heliodor - various yellows, Goshenite - colorless and the quite rare Bixbite - red. Morganite - various pinks - is one of the rarest of this family.
It was apparently originally referred to as, "Pink Emerald".
Morganite was first identified in the early 1900's in California or in Madagascar depending on which source you are using. In 1910 George Kunz, a famous American gemologist and buyer for Tiffany & Company, proposed renaming it in honor of John Pierpont (J.P.) Morgan, an American banker and avid gemstone collector. Since then, Morganite has been prized by gem collectors owing to its beauty and rarity. It has become a popular gemstone for use in jewelry within recent years.
With a refractive index of 1.583 to 1.590 it displays very slightly more fire than either Aquamarine or Emerald (1.577 to 1.583). Morganite is slightly denser than other beryls as well with a specific gravity of 2.71 to 2.90 compared to the other beryls which boast of 2.66 to 2.87. Morganite is usually quite clean, unlike emerald which can be heavily included. In most cases, Morganite can be easily distinguished from other pink stones by its brilliance and vitreous luster, combined with its hardness, specific gravity, durability and excellent clarity.
Morganite is sometimes claimed to be a healing stone for both physical and spiritual problems of the heart. In some European countries, Morganite is used as a birthstone for October.
**Rhodium Plated Sterling Silver Facts:
Sterling Silver is designated as . 925.
Sterling Silver does not contain nickel or lead which is the main reason that silver plated items may irritate your skin.
Sterling silver will tarnish over time to a deep blue black. To entirely prevent tarnish from forming, Sterling Silver may be Rhodium plated. This also improves the color of the silver.
Rhodium is a member of the platinum precious metals group. Rhodium is quite durable and is hypoallergenic. Rhodium by itself is a good deal more expensive than platinum or gold. But used as a plating material on Sterling Silver, it is affordable, durable, and adds value to the silver. As an added bonus, Rhodium plated sterling silver is very easy to keep clean!
Even though you will not actually need it with the Rhodium plating, I will include a small anti-tarnish tab with your order which should be kept with your pearls when you are not wearing them. The tab should last for 2 years. The tab does not prevent tarnish, but it will inhibit tarnish from forming. It is my policy to include the tab with all my white metal designs.
