Emily - Hand built small vase, Ikebana vase, pottery jar, hand made red earthenware coil and slab built ceramic vessel, small flower vase.  #P1819   FREE SHIPPING WITHIN UNITED STATES.

Emily is a unique asymmetrical small vase with abstract details hand built in red earthenware with turquoise and white glazes. Perfect for Ikebana arrangements or a lovely accent piece. Emily would be a wonderful addition to your home collection.

3 3/4" X 3 1/2" X 6"

Glaze on glaze decoration with glass runs in blue and white.

Normally a piece is fired twice: once for what is called the "bisque" fire and once for the glaze fire. Additional firings may be done if decals, China Paints, or lusters are being used.

If the potter is looking for something in particular, more than one glaze firings might be undertaken. It took 4 glaze firings to get the glaze interactions seen here. You can catch glimpses of the red earthenware through the glazes as well as the blues and white glazes that I used on this piece. The piece feels really good when held in your hands. The surface is smooth and glossy. I used a glass that had just a bit of cobalt blue in it for the glass runs. The color blended very well with the glaze colors.

All my bowls are food safe unless otherwise noted. In this case, I doubt it would be an issue.  Signed and dated in ink on the bottom.

**If you would like to display Emily, or any other of my pieces, on a walled surface - but can't figure out how to do that -  I can get a wall mounting for you. The mountings are made of clear acrylic, attach securely to drywall, and must be fitted to the individual piece. When you indicate your interest, I will get a price quote for you. The price depends on the size and shape, but they are not expensive. I do not take any carrying, handling or other fees on mountings. I order them for my customers as a courtesy – convenience only.

Emily will sit very nicely on a fireplace mantle, side table, or other shelving. She could be used as a vase if you choose.

**You may have noticed that I am not a “production potter”.  I don't make the same thing over and over again. There is nothing wrong in doing that, it is just not where my interests lie.  I am what is termed a “studio potter”.  I like bowl forms in their various guises. No two of my pieces are the same, even when working on a similar theme.  It can take upwards of a week for me to make one piece. Any given piece may take several visits to the kiln before I get the color development that I want. I tend to treat each object that I make as an individual, rather than a “thing”. I only work with materials that I feel have a “spark” to them, a sort of “life force” element.

If you have any questions about the jar, the process, or the exhibition history of the piece, please do not hesitate to ask.  The contact tab on MeritiousMud may not be in operation as yet. You can always contact me through my other shop:  http://www.etsy.com/shop/LusterWear?ref=si_shop
