15mm or about 5/8" in overall length. That is a bit short of the diameter of a US penny coin, which measures about 19mm. Pearl measures 5mm in diameter or about 3/16mm.

**Pearl Facts:
I grade my pearls using an A-AAA grading scale, where AAA is the best quality available. AAA grade pearl will have a surface that is at least 95% free of any defects (Dimples, chips, "burn marks" any unsightly thing). 

Freshwater pearls generally range in size from about 3.0-7.0mm. Cara measures 5mm in diameter.

Color in freshwater pearls is dictated by the colors produced by the mother shell. Natural untreated colors range from whitish, through pink, apricot to peach.

Most bright white pearls are bleached by exposure to light. Some of the lighter colors may also be bleached to even out their tone.

The color of Cara's pearl is just as her mother oyster made her. She has not been treated in any way - other than to give her a nice bath once she saw the light of day. 

It has been said by experts in the field that contemporary Chinese cultured freshwater pearls rival the quality of the most expensive natural pearls ever found. The natural untreated color range is certainly wider.
