Wonderful for all occasions.  Large, 21mm x 14mm x 13mm freshwater white nucleated pearl pendant set in solid 14kt gold and featuring a faceted 6.5mm x 4mm garnet drop gemstone. 

**The Stats:
Grade: AA grade nucleated fireball freshwater pearl.

Size: Large 14mm x 12.5mm x 12mm size pearl; Overall the pendant is 40.5mm or about 1 5/8" in overall length.

Shape: Nice baroque shape, very large.

Skin: Slightly rippled nucleated skin.

Color: Untreated pastel blush color. 

Luster: High luster.

Overtones: Rainbow overtones.

Very iridescent, sometimes called "metallic" or "gemmy". 
The back is not as beautiful as the front. Please see photos for clarity.

5.6g or .2oz in weight. 

Avalon is not a double sided pendant in my opinion. Both sides are shown in the photos.

The generous bail will accommodate a chain at least up to 2.5mm.

**Pearl Facts:
I grade my pearls using an A-AAA grading scale, where AAA is the best quality available. AA grade pearl will have a surface that is at least 90% free of any defects (Dimples, chips, "burn marks" any unsightly thing). 

This type of nucleated freshwater pearl is a subset of all freshwater pearls. They typically show folds, dimples, ripples and sometimes voids. These are not considered flaws, but are sought after for their visual interest and the color play that results. I have rated Avalon AA for her high face luster, extreme rarity, interest and character. Again the back of the pearl is not as beautiful as the front side. Most often this happens when the pearl grows too close to the shell - i.e. constrained growth.

**Garnet Facts:
Garnet has been used as a gemstone in jewelry for over 5,000 years. It has been found in the jewelry of many Egyptian burials and was the most popular gemstone of Ancient Rome. It is a beautiful gem that is usually sold without treatment of any kind. It is also durable and common enough that it can be used in jewelry at a relatively low cost.

Most people think, "red" when they think of garnet. In fact garnet occurs in many colors: . Rhodolite Garnet is a purplish red; Hessonite Garnet has a orange, cinnamon, or pinkish color; Tsavorite Garnet is a dark green; Demantoid Garnet  is a different sort of green; Uvarovite sports an almost emerald green color; Pyrope Garnets are purplish red, orangy red, crimson, or dark red; Spessartite Garnet colors range from yellow and orange through red to reddish brown to dark black/brown; Color Change Garnets have a "Alexandrite-like" effect when viewed in natural light or artificial lighting.

Garnets measure from a 6.5 to 7.0 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale depending on the type of Garnet.

Refractive index measurements range from 1.73 to 1.89, again depending on the type of Garnet.

Garnet is the Birthstone for January and the gift for the 2nd and 6th wedding anniversary.

**Fun Fact:
In earlier times, garnets were exchanged as gifts between friends to demonstrate their affection for each other and to insure that they meet again.
