Emerald, like Aquamarine, is a beryl. With a Mohs rating of 7.5 - 8.0 and a refractive index of 1.57 - 1.58 it is a very popular and durable stone for all jewelry applications. Most faceted stones are clean, clear and present a vitreous surface. As with most colored gemstones, color is the most important factor in determining an Emerald's value. Generally speaking - the clearer green the color the more expensive the stone. Intensely dark stones are rare. Aisha's color is ideal for an emerald.
