**Jade Facts

Jade is the term applied to forms of jadeite and nephrite. These minerals are similar in appearance and a distinction between the two often was not made. But, because of its more intense color and translucency, jadeite now brings higher prices and is thought to be the true jade.

The color of the stone is the most important factor but translucency and texture are important criteria determining price. Jade is a 6 1/2-7 on the Mohs scale of hardness.

As well as being used for jewelry-making, Jade has also been used to make tools, weapons, carvings, heirloom ornaments, religious art and sculptures. Jade has a long association with China, having been mined and worked there since the Stone Age. China is still the world’s leading producer of Jade items today.

I have used the new alloy “Argentium® Silver” in this ring. Containing more germanium than traditional alloys, these silvers, “Argentium® Silver”, "Continuum® Silver", or “Sterlium Plus® Silver”, are highly tarnish-resistant.

Even though Argentium® Silver , Continuum® Silver, or Sterlium Plus® Silver almost never needs much care, I always send along an anti-tarnish tab and a polishing cloth with your order. The tab should be kept with your ring when it is being stored. It will not prevent tarnish but will inhibit it from forming, and will not harm your gemstone.
