AAA grade pearls will have a surface area that is at least 95% free of any defects (dimples, chips, \"burn marks\", or any unsightly thing). Melanie's pearls are flawless, the best quality available.\u003cbr\u003e\u0026gt;Tahitian pearls are grown in the warm salt waters of French Polynesia by the Pinctada margaritifera or black-lipped oyster. \u003cbr\u003e\u0026gt;Tahitian pearls generally range in size from about 7.0-15.0mm. A 9mm size in a Tahitian pearl is relatively common and abundant.\u003cbr\u003e\u0026gt;Color in Tahitian pearls is dictated by the colors produced by the mother oyster on the inside of her  shell. Natural untreated colors range from silver, through various grays, to black with rare greens, cherries and aubergines. The color range is quite large.\u003cbr\u003e\u0026lt;Nothing glows quite like a Tahitian. They are quite individualistic and difficult to match.   Melanie's pearls are very well matched in every sense.\u003cbr\u003e\u0026gt;Poor quality pearls - of any kind - are dull and chalky. Also they may be severally pitted or have voids in their nacre. If they are ugly, they are not jewelry grade pearls.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e**Silver Facts:\u003cbr\u003e\u0026gt;Sterling Silver is designated as .925.\u003cbr\u003e\u0026gt;Sterling Silver does not contain nickel or lead which is the main reason that silver plated items may irritate your skin.\u003cbr\u003e\u0026gt;Sterling silver will tarnish over time to a deep blue black. The tarnish may stain your pearl. Neither I, nor my testers have noticed any problems with the sterling silver settings in the few years that we have been observing this issue. It may be that problems occur over very long periods of time and a great deal of neglect. It is not clear if the tarnish would actually pit the pearl. I have never observed this with silver, only with copper.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn order to absolutely guarantee against tarnishing I have Rhodium plated Melanie. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e**Rhodium Facts:\u003cbr\u003e\u0026gt;Rhodium is a member of the platinum precious metals group. White gold and sterling silver may be plated to improve the color of the metal and to avoid tarnishing. (Yes, white gold will darken over time, but does not tarnish as sterling silver will.) \u003cbr\u003e\u0026gt;Rhodium is quite durable and is hypoallergenic.  It will not harm your pearls. Rhodium by itself is a good deal more expensive than platinum or gold. But used as a plating material on Sterling Silver, it is affordable, durable, and adds value to the silver.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMelanie should require very little care. Nevertheless, I will include a small anti-tarnish tab which should be kept with your bangle when you are not wearing it. The tab should last for 2 years. It will not harm your pearls. The tab does not prevent tarnish, but it will inhibit tarnish from forming. I will also include a silica gel pack to guard against environmental pollutants.
